Josiah Chistlieb

1828–1852

Josiah Christlieb (Friedrich Carl Christlieb1, Carl Christlieb2, Solomon Christlieb3 & Sarah Crislip3) [832, 1026], born 12 April 1828; died 8 July 1852; Josiah Christlieb “married Catherine Souders and died within a year after his marriage without issue.” The Christlieb Family, p. 26. Josiah died, 8 July 1852; buried in Ziegler’s Church graveyard, Mifflin Township in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. After his death, Catherine Christlieb sold her husband’s share of his father’s estate to her mother-in-law, Sarah.

The 1850 Farm Census for Mifflin Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, recorded the following for Josiah Christlieb:

  • 100 acres improved land; 20 acres unimproved.

  • 100 bushels wheat; 35 bushels rye; 20 bushels Indian corn; 50 bushels oats; 15 bushels Irish potatoes; 10 tons hay; 10 pounds wool; 260 pounds of butter.

  • $2,160.00 cash value of land, $100 value of farming machinery; $287 livestock value.

  • 5 horses, 4 milch cows, 2 other cows, 3 sheep, and 9 swine.

  • $50 value of slaughtered animals.
