Michael Crouser

1803–1850


Michael Crouser (Friederich Carl Christlieb1, Jacob Christlieb2, Elizabeth Crislip3) [126], born 1803, in Pennsylvania; died 10 October 1850 in Wood County, West Virginia; Married, Randolph County, Virginia, 6 March 1829, Mahala/Martha Kittle, daughter of Abraham and Elizabeth Esters Kittle, b. ca. 1809. Wood County Marriage Bonds. Book 1.

The 1830 census lists Michael Crouser living close to his parents in Harrison County, Virginia. In the household are 1 male and 1 female, both under 30 years of age, and one male under 5. The 1850 census lists Michael and Mahala Crouser living in District 65, Wood County, Virginia, with six children.

Michael Crouser was buried in Leachtown Cemetery, Leachtown, Wood County, West Virginia. His headstone was either missing or unreadable in 2016. It is unknown when Mahala Crouser died or where she was buried.

  • David Crouser (Friederich Carl Christlieb1, Jacob Christlieb2, Elizabeth Crislip3, Michael Crouser4), born ca. 1830, married, 4 Aug 1850, Wood County, (West) Virginia, Elizabeth H Sprouse; born 1 Feb 1834, Wood County West Virginia; died 1 Feb 1908, Tucker County, West Virginia; buried in Bayard Cemetery, Bayard, Grant County, West Virginia. The 1860 census lists David and family living in Weston, Lewis, Virginia, with five children. David enlisted in Company C, Virginia 17th Cavalry Regiment, where he served the Confederacy during the Civil War. David died during the 1863 and 1864 "winter camps" in the Salem area [Salem City, Virginia]. He may be buried in an unmarked grave in the East Hill Cemeetery, Salem, Salem City, Virginia. There is a memorial plaque listing a number of soldiers from the 17th Virginia cavalry.

  • Nicholas Crouser (Friederich Carl Christlieb1, Jacob Christlieb2, Elizabeth Crislip3, Michael Crouser4), born ca. 1832, Wood, (West) Virginia; died 17 May 1905, Wirt, West Virginia, while living with his son, Ben Crouser, and his grandson, Luther Crouser, in Grant, Ritchie, West Virginia; married 1st 1852, Wood County, (West) Virginia, Eliza Ann Newman; married 2nd, 9 May 1879, Randolph, Randolph County, (West) Virginia, Jane Anderson; Nicholas was listed as married when he registered for the Civil War draft, at age 30. The 1860 census for Wood County, Virginia, lists Nicholas Crouser, Eliza A., children Richard, age 4, and Benjamin, age 3 mo., and Nicholas' youngest sibling, Adam Crouser, who was 14 at the time.

  • Lemuel Crouser (Friederich Carl Christlieb1, Jacob Christlieb2, Elizabeth Crislip3, Michael Crouser4), born ca. 1837, Wood, (West) Virginia; died ; married 26 Apr 1870, Parkersburg, Wood County, West Virginia, Sarah Renner, born1845 County, Iowa, James Delong, born 2 September 1818 in Ohio, died 8 Feb 1897, Yreka, Siskiyou County, California, son of David Delong and Jane Jeanne Law. He was on Siskiyou County Voting Registers beginning in 1866.

  • Elizabeth Crouser (Friederich Carl Christlieb1, Jacob Christlieb2, Elizabeth Crislip3, Michael Crouser4), born ca. 1839, Wood County, (West) Virginia; died 8 November 1886, Little Shasta, Siskiyou County, California; married 22 Feb 1853 in Mahaska County, Iowa, James Delong, born 2 September 1818 in Ohio, died 8 Feb 1897, Yreka, Siskiyou County, California, son of David Delong and Jane Jeanne Law. He was on Siskiyou County Voting Registers beginning in 1866.
