Sarah Jane Reed

1809–1891

Sarah Jane Reed (Friedrich Carl Christlieb1, Jacob Christlieb2, Christiana Crislip3) [250], born 1 April 1809, Harrison County, Virginia; died 26 December 1891, Urbana, Champaign County, Ohio; married, March 26, 1829, Champaign County, Ohio, to Joseph Cameron, born Pennsylvania, 3 January 1807, son of John Cameron and Ann Dorothea Peck; died 20 June 1872, Union County, Ohio. In 1828, Sarah Jane Reed, along with her brothers, Jacob and William, rode horseback, a distance of 250 miles from Virginia to Champaign County, Ohio, where, in the following spring, she wedded Joseph Cameron. In 1830, they removed to Jackson Township near Richwood, Ohio. Sarah Jane Reed and Joseph Cameron were the parents of 13 children, one of whom fought in the Civil War and was the first white child born in Jackson Township, Ohio.   • Harvey "Harry" Allen Cameron (Friedrich Carl Christlieb1, Jacob Christlieb2, Christiana Crislip3, Sarah Jane Reed4) [251], born 8 March 1830. He is said to have been the first white child born in Jackson Township, Union County, Ohio; Harvey fought in the Civil War. He died at age 31 on 6 March 1862; married 30 June 1853, Union County, Ohio, to Sarah Jane Bennett, born 22 May 1832 in Ohio, daughter of James Cummings Bennett and Rachel VanZant; died 29 May 1915, Buchanan County, Missouri.

  • Erastus Reed Cameron, MD (Friedrich Carl Christlieb1, Jacob Christlieb2, Christiana Crislip3, Sarah Jane Reed4) [254], born 2 April 1833, Jackson, Union County, Ohio; died 6 November 1911, Richwood, Union County, Ohio; married 24 June 1858, Keokuk County, Iowa, Mary Jane Mackay, daughter of James Mackay and Abigail Long; born September 1839, Illinois; died 18 April 1925, Union County, Ohio.

  • Eliza Ann Cameron (Friedrich Carl Christlieb1, Jacob Christlieb2, Christiana Crislip3, Sarah Jane Reed4) [256], born 18 June 1835, Jackson, Union County, Ohio; died 21 November 1917; married, 24 December 1868, Marion County, Ohio, Charles Augustus Millikan, born 8 December 1834, Ohio, son of William Millikan and Amanda Holmes; died 12 January 1914, Union County, Ohio.

  • Christianna Cameron (Friedrich Carl Christlieb1, Jacob Christlieb2, Christiana Crislip3, Sarah Jane Reed4) [293], born 1858. “Christianna "Christie" CAMERON was raised in the Cameron family, but her parents are "as yet unknown." Some sources show her as the last child of Joseph and Sarah Jane Reed CAMERON as shown in the 1860 census. But in the 1870 census her family name is given as REED.” Audrey Leota Landes, Marysville, Ohio.
