William Crouser

1821–1893

William Crouser, born 15 October 1821, in Harrison County, Virginia; died 21 October 1893; married, 12 Oct 1851, in Dent’s Run, Marion County, Virginia, Amelia Mildred Metz, born 5 July 1829, in Marion County, Virginia. Amelia died at age 93 years, 2 months, 14 days in Mannington, Marion County, West Virginia, on 5 July 1922. William and Amelia’s children were all born at Dent’s Run, Mannington Township, Marion County, Virginia.

On 22 November 1890, Amelia Metz Crouser deeded land that had been conveyed to her father in 1852, to her three sons; Julius F. Crowser, Jasper A. Crowser, and Francis M. Crowser. The deed stipulated that Julius, Jasper, and Francis were to pay their siblings, Mary Shaver, Martha J. Shaehelford, John Crowser, George Crowser, and Lorena V. Crowser each $150 within two years from the date of the deed and to furnish Amelia “comfortable support and maintenance on the said tract of land during her natural lifetime and a decent burial at her death…” Marion County Deed Book 75, pp. 475-476.

A death entry in Marion County shows that a son, William died 12 November 1862, at age 4 years, 3 months, and 4 days. The reported cause of death was “scalded.” Marion County Death Record Book 1.
